Conceptual Background

Conceptually the DISABKIDS instruments tools are based on the definition of health-related quality of life assuming mental, social and physical components of quality of life. Furthermore it differentiates between generic and disease-specific quality of life. Concerning the level of operationalisations, the DISABKIDS instrument tool set focusses on the subjective evaluation of symptoms. A developmental approach is taken towards quality of life, which has been elaborated on the literature [Bullinger and Ravens-Sieberer 1995; Eiser and others 1999; Eiser and Morse 2001a].
